From a nature standpoint, Costa Rica is one of the world’s most beautiful countries. Costa Rica is blessed with an amazing selection of exotic wildlife and flora, which leave travelers in awe time after time. The country’s rainforests and natural reserves are a haven for nature lovers, while the beaches on both the Pacific and Caribbean Coasts are some of the world’s most beautiful. The active volcano of Arenal, the turtles of Tortuguero, the breathtaking beach nature of Manuel Antonio – all these and more await those visiting this amazing Central American gem.
Day 1 – Arrival in San Jose
Arrival in San Jose and transfer to hotel. Stayover in San Jose.
Day 2 – San Jose – Tortuguero
An early morning drive to the Caribbean coast, through the Braulio Carillo Rainforest. A stop for breakfast and a boat ride in the Tortoguero canals. An afternoon visit to the village of Tortoguero. Lunch and dinner at the lodge (included).
Throughout July – October, a night tour of the beach where the turtles lay their eggs is recommended (tour at an additional cost).
Stayover in Tortuguero National Park.
Day 3 – Tortuguero National Park – Arenal
An early morning boat ride through the canals and a view of the rich wildlife in the area (mammals, reptiles and birds). A ride back after breakfast and lunch at a restaurant. A drive towards Arenal, a volcano dormant for 400 years until its eruption in 1968. Since its eruption, Arenal continues to spit out smoldering lava.
Day 4 – Arenal
Breakfast at the hotel. A morning tour of the Arenal Volcano National Park, and an afternoon dip in the hot springs of Tabacon. Dinner included. Stayover in Arenal area.
Day 5 – Monte Verde
Breakfast at hotel, followed by a drive through Lake Arenal towards Monte Verde – the “Cloud Forest” – one of Costa Rica’s most beautiful nature reserves, with a dizzying array of flora. An afternoon walk over the Sky Walk bridges, which hang over the forest.
Day 6 – Monte Verde – Manuel Antonio
Breakfast at hotel, followed by a walking tour of Monte Verde Reserve. An afternoon drive to the Pacific Coast and the Pan American Highway towards Manuel Antonio – a beach resort and nature reserve.
Day 7 – Manuel Antonio – San Jose
After breakfast, a visit to Manuel Antonio Natural Park – a tropical forest on the Pacific Coast, with small gulfs and picturesque beaches. An afternoon drive back to San Jose. Stayover in San Jose.
Day 8 – Departure Flight
Transfer to airport and departure flight.
