Gautemala has it all. Since it is not a large country, a 7-day tour provides a comprehensive experience of Guatemalan countryside and culture. Whether walking through colonial Antigua, taking in the Lake Atitlan scenery, experiencing Mayan culture in Tikal or taking photos of Chichicastenango’s colorful market stands, Guatemala’s diversity and hospitality will leave you dazzled.
Day 1 – Guatemala City
Arrival at Guatemala City International Airport. Check in at hotel. Stayover in Guatemala City.
Day 2 – Chichicastenango
Morning drive to the town of Chichicastenango, including a visit to the colorful market where one can find fabrics, masks, local art made of wood and ceramics, and food (the market is open on Sundays and Thursdays). A visit to Santo Tomas Church and then to Lake Atitlan. A visit to the town of Panajachel, which is located on the coast of Lake Atitlan. Stayover in Atitlan area.
Day 3 – Lake Atitlan
A boat ride on Lake Atitlan, which is situated next to 3,000 meter high volcanoes. A visit to the village of Santiago de Atitlan, which is populated by Maya Quiche Indians. A visit to additional Atitlan villages, followed by a drive to Antigua. Stayover in Antigua.
Day 4 – Antigua
Built between three volcanoes, Antigua is a beautiful and picturesque city that was rebuilt after many volcanic eruptions. Antigua is best experienced by foot, allowing a full view of its colonial structures and numerous churches. The day includes a visit is planned to a coffee plantation farm and to Casa K’Ojom, the Mayan music museum. Stayover in Antigua.
Day 5 – Flores-Tikal
A morning flight from Guatemala City to Flores, the capital of El Peten region in Northeast Guatemala, which is situated on an island within Lake Peten Itza. The day’s highlight is a visit to Tikal, an overwhelming Mayan site in the heart of the jungle, which was the Mayans largest and most important city. The relics include squares, an acropolis, temples, a museum and pyramids, the highest of which stick out amidst the thick jungle bush and ample wildlife. The visit to Tikal is an unforgettable experience. The tour includes lunch. Stayover in the Flores area.
Day 6 – Flores-Guatemala
The morning hours are free for exploration of the lake area, with the possibility of visiting the Seibal Maya site (not included). Afternoon flight back to Guatemala City. Check in at hotel. Stayover in Guatemala City.
Day 7 – Departure Flight
Departure flight from Guatemala City.
