Day 1 – Arrival in Delhi
Arrival in Delhi in the morning and check in at hotel. A tour of Delhi – a blend of modern city and old Indian metropolis. A tour of the ancient city, including Raj Ghat, Mahatma Gandhi’s memorial site and the Jama Masjid Mosque, which will be reached via rickshaw ride. Onwards to new Delhi, with its parliament building and India Gate. A visit to Humayon Tomb and Qutub Minar, which is 80 meters high and made of red sandstone and marble. A visit to Chandani Chowk (Silver Street). Stayover in Delhi.
Day 2 – Delhi – Jaipur
A car ride to Jaipur (approx. 6 hours), the capital of Rajasthan, which is laden with castles and fortresses. The houses in the old city are painted pink, preserving it’s Maharaja past. Stayover in Jaipur.
Day 3 – Jaipur
A full-day tour: a morning elephant ride to the Amber fortress that was home to the Maharajas before they relocated to Jaipur. A visit to Hawa Mahal – the Palace of Winds, from which the Maharaja’s women used to look out to the streets. A visit to Jantar Mantar – the famous observatory, the castle and the bustling market. A view of the sunset from Birla Mandir Temple. Stayover in Jaipur.
Day 4 – Fatehpur Sikri – Agra
A visit to Agra (approx. 6 hours). On the way, a visit to Fatehpur Sikri, a ghost town built on ancient red sandstone, which was established in the 16th century by the Mughal Emperor Akbar. Stayover in Agra.
Day 5 – Agra
A tour of the city, including Agra fortress. Arrival at the Taj Mahal during sunset (closed on Fridays), which the Emperor Shah Jahan built for his love Mumtaz, who died giving birth to their son. Stayover in Agra.
Day 6 – Orchha – Kajuraho
Breakfast at hotel. Shatabi Express train to Jhansi (approx. 2.5 hours), and from there to Kajuraho by car. Stayover in Kajuraho.
Day 7 – Kajuraho – Varanasi
Breakfast at hotel. A tour of the Chandela Dynasty temples, whose walls feature scenes from everyday life, including erotica. A flight to Varanasi (recommended flight 9W 724) –India’s most sacred city, built on the Ganges River. Transfer to hotel. A rickshaw tour of the old city and a view of the Aarti ceremony on the brink of the Ganges. Stayover in Varanasi.
Day 8 – Varanasi
Breakfast at hotel. A boat ride on the Ganges River at sunrise, viewing the city come to life near the sacred river. A return to the hotel for breakfast and a tour of the city: temples, the University and the mosque. An afternoon visit to Sarnath, where Buddha gave his first sermon. Stayover in Varanasi.
Day 9 – Varanasi – Departure Flight
Transfer to airport for flight to Delhi or Mumbai and connection flight.
