Mexico is extremely diverse and has a lot to offer travelers. This trip, which begins with a tour of the Mexico’s fascinating capital city and continues with the tropical magic of Chiapas and breathtaking Palenque, is an extremely recommended gateway into the country’s ageless wonder. From the murals of Diego Rivera and the bustling Zocalo of Mexico City, to the colonial mystique of San Cristobal de las Cases and the magnificent waterfalls of Agua Azul, this trip promises to showcase Mexico in all of its splendor. And if you wish to continue for an extra three days – Cancun and the ancient Mayan city of Chichen Itza await.
Day 1 – Arrival in Mexico City
Landing at airport. Hotel check-in. Stayover in Mexico City.
Day 2 – Mexico City
A guided tour of the city, including: the historical center, the main Zocalo, the Palacio Nacional with Diego Rivera’s breathtaking murals and the impressive cathedral, Park Chapultepec and the National Museum of Anthropology (one of the world’s most important – closed on Mondays). Stayover in Mexico City.
Day 3 – Mexico City, Teotihuacan
A trip to Teotihuacan, which is also named “birthplace of the gods” – a relic from ancient Olmec culture. A tour of the Avenue of the Dead and the sun & moon pyramids. A visit to the Basilica of our Lady of Guadeloupe Cathedral on the way back. Stayover in Mexico City.
Day 4 – Mexico City, Xochimilco
A visit to Coyoacan, including the Frida Kahlo Museum and the Xochimilco Floating Gardens – a small boat ride accompanied by Mariachi bands playing inside the boats (trip available on Sundays and Wednesdays). Stayover in Mexico City.
Day 5 – Mexico City – San Cristobal de las Cases, Chiapas
A morning flight to Tuxtla Gutierrez – arrival at 1:00 PM (flight not included). Trip to the small city of Chiapa de Corzo and a cruise within Sumidero Canyon, between erect hundred meter walls. A drive to picturesque San Cristobal de las Cases. Stayover in San Cristobal de las Cases.
Day 6 – San Cristobal de las Cases, Chiapas
A walking tour of San Cristobal del las Casas and the villages of San Juan Chamula (where a colorful market operates on Sundays), and Zinacatan. Stayover in San Cristobal de las Cases.
Day 7 – Palenque
A trip to the ancient city of Palenque, which is located within a jungle. On the way, a visit to the Agua Azul and Misol-Ha waterfalls. An afternoon visit to Palenque’s archeological site, which includes the remains of Mayan pyramids in the midst of the tropical jungle. Stayover in Palenque.
Day 8 – Villahermosa – Departure Flight
A trip in Villahermosa and a visit to La Venta Park. Then it is off to the airport and to the next destination at 3:00 PM (flight not included).
Day 1 – Cancun (Extra)
Arrival at Cancun airport in Yucatan. Check in at hotel. Stayover in Cancun.
Day 2 – Cancun – Chechen Itza (Extra)
A trip to Chichen Itza, the largest Mayan site in the Yucatan Peninsula, which is famous for its round observatory and its decorated structures. Lunch is included. Afternoon drive to Cancun. Stayover in Cancun.
Day 3 – Cancun (Extra)
Arrival at airport and flight to next destination.
The price includes:
Accommodation in “Standard” double rooms in hotels as mentioned in the program or similar subject to approval.
